Dr. Barbara Gillespie-Washington 

Supervisor Dr. Barbara Gillespie-Washington is a devoted educator, esteemed community leader, and faithful servant of God. Guided by her unwavering faith and passion for service, she has dedicated her life to uplifting others both in education and ministry, leaving an indelible mark on countless lives.

A resident of Champaign-Urbana Illinois, Supervisor Dr. Gillespie-Washington pursued academic excellence, earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois’ College of Agriculture, a master’s degree in education, and a Doctor of Theology from North Carolina College of Theology. For 36 years, she faithfully served in the Urbana Public School System, shaping young minds and fostering growth before retiring in June 2005.

Her life’s work extends far beyond the classroom. She has served on the NAACP Executive Board, the Optimist Club Board, the Champaign Mental Health Board, and the Urbana Free Library Board of Directors. A proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, she has also played a key role in the Urbana Schools Foundation Team. Driven by a calling to mentor and inspire, she founded Wisdom Works, a scholarship and mentoring program dedicated to empowering the next generation. Her tireless dedication to education and community advocacy has earned her numerous accolades, recognizing her leadership, vision, and enduring contributions.

Above all, Supervisor Dr. Gillespie-Washington is a devoted vessel for God’s work. She serves faithfully in the Church of God in Christ (C.O.G.I.C.) as the International Department of Women Regional Supervisor, overseeing 33 jurisdictions both nationally and internationally. Additionally, she is an Advisory Board Member to C.O.G.I.C. International Department of Women General Supervisor, Mother Barbara McCoo Lewis. Her elevation within the church reflects her unwavering faith, steadfast obedience, and deep love for God’s calling on her life.

A devoted mother and grandmother, she cherishes her family as a sacred gift. She is the proud mother of three children: Darrell, Joshua, and Kimberly, and a loving grandmother to six grandsons and two granddaughters. She remains committed to faith, family, and the divine call to serve others with excellence, grace, and anointing.
